Netscape Navigator Will Be Laid To Rest On Feb 1, 2008. You Are Requested To Observer Silence.

All the Internet users are requested to observe a minute of silence on February 1, 2008 as the Netscape Navigator will die on that day.

Netscape launched the commercial Internet browser Netscape Navigator on Oct 1 2004 and AOL acquired Netscape in 1998 for $4.2 billions. Yesterday AOL announced ceasing of development and end of customer support on Feb 1, 2008.

The recent surveys suggest that Netscape currently has only 0.6% market share, compared to Internet Explorer's 77.35% and Firefox's 16.01%. In 1990s Netscape enjoyed 90 percent of the market share and gave very tough competition to Internet Explorer.

YouTube Starts Revenue Sharing With All Users

Few months ago YouTube started paying high quality, original content uploaders through it revenue sharing program YouTube Partners. Today YouTube announced that the revenue sharing program, originally limited to very few content producers, is open to any US and Canadian users.  

In an official statement YouTube Team said

We feel it's important to reward our most dedicated community members: those who are regularly uploading original content to YouTube.

we will focus on the users who have built a significant audience on YouTube (as measured by video views, subscribers, etc.) and who consistently comply with the YouTube Terms of Use

At present video uploaders from US and Canada are allowed for revenue sharing and soon it will expand internationally. If you live in in US or Canada and your video content meets these following requirements you can apply for YouTube Partner revenue sharing program

• original videos
• have the copyrights and distribution rights for all the uploaded content
• regularly post videos
• popular videos

Cyber Monday Set a New Record With $733 Million in Online Spending.

Amazon and Wal-Mart Top Online Retailers in Cyber Monday Visitors

U.S. online shoppers spent a record $733 million in a single day on "Cyber Monday," according to market research firms.

Cyber Monday is the first Monday after Thanksgiving and is considered the start of the online holiday shopping season when consumers return to work and seek deals not found in bricks and mortar retailers.

The spend was 21 percent up on the same day last year.The number of online buyers rose 38 percent from a year ago while the average dollar spend per buyer slipped 12 percent partly due to deep discounting.

The most interesting thing is that 60 percent of the money spent on Cyber Monday came from work computers.

The research data also showed that 44 percent of Internet users shopped online during Cyber Monday.

The most trafficked sites included those belonging to Amazon.com, Wal-Mart Stores Inc, Target Corp, Dell Inc and Best Buy Co Inc, comScore said.

Advertising on Facebook Sucks!!

Amit Agarwal of Digital Inspirations recently ran two ad campains on Facebook and had a bad experience. Amit purchased  5,000 ad impressions for 10$ on Flyers Basic of Facebook advertising system. And for his surprise he was able to get only 5 visits to his site from that ad campaign.

Observing his bad experience on Facebook advertising I feel it is better to stick to Google AdWords. For Indian content blogs I prefer to run ad campaigns on indianpad, the Indian version of famous DIgg.

Seems to be Google sensed that there is not much threat from Facebook and their bidding for Facebook share was less compared to Microsoft(Microsoft is the highest bidder for Facebook share and the deal is through) .
