YouTube this week began placing ads on its video clips. It is like a little banner ad that covers 15% of the window that a lot of YouTube fans aren't happy.
A Firefox extension called TubeStop was created to keep YouTube videos from automatically playing on the video-sharing site. A great side effect of TubeStop has been the removal of the new ads on YouTube clips. How does this work? TubeStop replaces YouTube native player on the site with the embeddable version, which has not been ad-ified yet. Anyway, it turns out that TubeStop has magical properties that also prevent the new overlay ads from popping up. It's sort of like AdBlock for YouTube that way.
