Stop Microsoft Windows Update Bothering You To Restart

Microsoft Windows Update application helps us to automatically install latest updates of operating system and other products. Microsoft Update is a nice application as long as it does not bother us with restart dialog.

When a certain Windows update requires to reboot the operating system, it nags with a dialog box requesting us to restart.

Luckily one simple command can disable this dialog box

  1. Open command prompt window(Start-->Run...-->cmd-->enter)
  2. Execute the command sc stop wuauserv

This command stops the service which popup the restart dialog. Now we can restart the operating system when are done with our work. The auto update service will restart next time when we boot and automatically downloads available updates.

This would be wonderful as that little window has caused me nothing but torment, but I cannot get it to work. . .I get:

DOS/32A -- Protected Mode Run-time Version 7.2
Copyright (C) Supernar Systems, Ltd. 1996-2002
SC/32A fatal: DOS/32A environment variable is not set up properly
You need to reinstall DOS/32 Advanced DOS Extender on this computer

. . .and the irritating window keeps popping up.

@chaoticcranium,
Try to disable the update service using windows service manager interface.

Follow these steps
1) Go to start --> run
2) Type services.msc and press ener
3) Locate the service "Windows Update" or "Windows Automatic Update".
4) Right click on the service and select stop.

Hope this resolve the issue.
